Only Murders In The Building: How the “Westies” made “Lifeboat” the worst episode of the series

“What a complete waste of time.”

That’s something that comes to mind after watching this week’s “Only Murders In The Building”. We spent another episode with the already insufferable “Westies” from the other tower only to discover they’re not the killers.

But not only did this slot machine not payoff, it was dreadfully boring and unfunny.

And I hate checking the great Richard Kind like this, but his character is doing nothing for the story. The lone laugh he gave me this season was the eye drops scene with Levy and Martin, but he’s lumbering with this story line as the plot just fails to advance in any sort of meaningful way.

Then there is the continued torment we’re being subjected to by Kumail Nanjiani, who on his quest to destroy every Disney property with bad characters after Star Wars and Marvel, dumped on two plots this episode with OMITB, while massacring the Jack Nicholson monologue from “A Few Good Men”. Is he being allowed to write his own stuff? He just crams his unfunniness into every property I enjoy.

The whole thing just gave me a headache.

Eugene Levy, Zach Galifinakis, and Eva Longoria had a good week, especially that odd device EL was pushing (a nail gun near so many sensitive areas is a dreadful but funny idea).

The problem is that we’ve fallen so far since the beginning of the season. I miss Jane Lynch.

Let’s hope things finish strong. And next season, get back to our core trio that made this one of the most well liked shows we’ve got to begin with.

I think you are a curmudgeon. This is without a doubt the best season since the first.

      1. Thanks for visiting.
      2. I think you are a good person.
      3. I’ll celebrate the show’s wins every chance I get (like the second show with the old Sazz videos from this season). But the “westies” are baaaaad. And if we don’t say anything they’ll keep bringing back these terribly unfunny characters. Unless things change in the homestretch, this will be the worst season.
