Shrinking S2 E3: Alice’s rage and 7 other important takeaways
Goodness. When Shrinking is firing on all cylinders, it’s really hard to think of another program that can make you laugh, cry, rage, and have a cathartic episode in under an hour like this show can.
So much happened in episode 3 of season 2 that I’m just going to throw it into bullet points for you.
I wish Alice had gone even harder on Double D. Especially after that flashback. And the writers read my mind by having Alice wear that hilarious sweatshirt we saw during that lovable flashback with Tia during her confrontation with Double D. The show is making us feel this loss with Alice and Jimmy and we all need to go through this anger before coming out the other side. This was Lukita Maxwell’s best work on the show to date.

The fact that Alice and Connor are going to hurt Summer (who has built a remarkable amount of likability in limited time) and in turn possibly put Jimmy at odds with Liz and Derek, is another strike against Double D and the amount of damage he’s done.
This was said last week. And it bears repeating. There is no forgiveness for Double D from this viewer. It may be different for you, which is fine, and the show is winning here, but I’m too upset.
Sean was way out of line. As a fellow struggling veteran with his own haul of challenges, he didn’t have to take his anger out on Liz, who for all of her flaws is still an excellent person. And I’m happy Derek spoke up. That’s his wife. Their house. He owes them both an apology.

And I can’t believe we haven’t seen Paul and Derek really interact before now. Two legends like Ford and McGinley trading lines was a real treat. I want more.
The Grace storyline was handled beautifully. And it was a springboard for the Brian and Jimmy friendship arc. I’ll be sad to see Heidi Gardner go, but it was an excellent way to end it if it’s over.
“Orange is the new snack”. Brian keeps winning this season.
The show doesn’t have any weak links right now. Last season I could didn’t care for Alice or Brian that much. This season, they hook me with either drama or comedy. The laugh allocation among the entire cast is just incredible.
What an episode. I’ll see you guys next week
