NBA: Here are the reasons viewership is suffering
NBA fans online are debating why they believe league viewership has been down this season. There are plenty of possible reasons, and some that may not even be on our radar, but enthusiasm is definitely on a slope.
Here are some reasons why interest in the NBA is down:
Too many fouls and arguing: The league is in love with scoring and it’s resulted in ridiculously high scores. Defense is a thing of the past with every player looking to make a score stopping impact, finding themselves in foul trouble for their efforts. And players completely kill the energy on the floor when they spar with referees about their calls.

Too much content everywhere else: There are a lot of choices competing for eyeballs in the entertainment atmosphere right nbow. When you take a weak game and throw it into the shark pit with all of these options you’re going to see a drop. I don’t want to watch a 152-130 Celtics vs. Nets matchup.
No real heroes to root for: Who is your favorite NBA player? That question has become harder to answer in today’s league. Once upon a time, every market had a star to get behind, now our obsession with the super team is coming back to haunt us. The great rivalries have also passed us by.

Unfair treatment of the small markets: I’ll never forget the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic playing a playoff game seven at 3PM on Sunday. If this were New York or Los Angeles, it would have caused an uproar.
The players aren’t locked in until the All Star break: The NBA season may be too long. The players certainly treat the game that way. Too often, the stars are taking too many games off before the halfway point of the season. If they don’t care, why should we?
The NBA isn’t what it used to be. It doesn’t have to stay this way. But the game needs help or we’ll continue to see viewership drop.
