Was Tom Hanks going to continue his legendary run? While Hanks is still very much one of the world’s most beloved actors to this day, Apollo 13 came while he was winning at every turn of his acting career. By this time, he was already a two time Oscar winner. He won for Philadelphia in 93’ and again for Forrest Gump in 94’. The man could do no wrong.

It was also a second team up with Hanks and Gary “Lieutenant Dan” Sinise: Sinise was also experiencing a bump after his Oscar nominated turn in Forrest Gump. But trying to replicate the success was no tall task. Luckily, for all involve Apollo 13 did do well both critically and commercially. Sinise would also go on a spectacular run. He would go on to star with Mel Gibson later this year in the kidnapping thriller “Ransom” the following year and have several other successful film and television projects.

And don’t forget Ed Harris, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Paxton: All three were terrific, and while the late, great, Paxton is no longer with us, he still had Twister in the tank a year later. Ed Harris and Kevin Bacon are still doing awesome work today.

Ron Howard did a solid job: By this time, we already knew Howard could direct. But Apollo 13 required a more nostalgic view of the event. And he managed to capture it nicely here.

It’s a good film and worth your time, if you’re a fan of space exploration.
