Doc: After promising start, I already want some “old Amy” revenge
Doc officially premiered on FOX this week, and the medical amnesia drama starring Molly Parker is off to a solid start. And it’s good to see Parker in the driver’s seat here (not that driver’s seat). She’s one of those reliable stars that’s due for this kind of opportunity.
She stars as Dr. Amy Larsen, a brilliant but arrogant doctor, who gets in an auto accident and loses memory of the last eight years of her life.
Before the accident, Larsen is obviously on the more abrasive side of her relationships. But you want to hear something crazy?
I hope the old Amy comes back. Because she might have been right in the way she treated the people in her life.
Exhibit A is the behavior at the nurses desk, where they’re actually cracking jokes about Larsen while she’s recovering.
These goblins are laughing at the fact that Amy had to relive the death of her child for a second time. No wonder she treated them so poorly. They don’t deserve the grace.
And at the beginning of the show, there is this obsession at the bedside manner Amy operates with. She’s kind of a jerk. But this expecting mother will die if she doesn’t take her advice.
I was almost expecting a Pulp Fiction Winston Wolf moment from her saying “Pretty please. With sugar on top” save your f****** life.
It’s unlikely the show will go this way. But I wouldn’t mind watching this “Samantha Who” meets “House” drama lean into Amy taking back her life with a healthy dose of affirmation instead of the just an morale redemption arc.
They’re off to a great start. Let’s do this again next week.
