American Primeval: Premiere is a big battle “Oregon Trail” nightmare
You remember that game “Oregon Trail”? If you’re too young to remember, it was an old school computer affair, that was something of a wagon adventure simulation, where you had to make decisions about logistics and obstacles involved regarding the trek through the American frontier. It dealt with serious matters. Members of your party could die. But the animations are regarded with pleasant nostalgia.
It’s time for a new TV. Get one on Amazon HERE!
“American Primeval”, the new adventure series premiering on Netflix this week, is nowhere near pleasant in it’s first episode, and the troublesome journey west is highlighted by another well directed Peter Berg action sequence involving the ambush of a relatively peaceful group of Mormon travelers.
Yeah, it looks like Sara Rowell and her son, Devin, are finally making progress trying to reunite their family out west, and enjoying a meal with their traveling buddies.
Next thing you know, an arrow plunges through the back of this sweet young women’s skull, and out the front of her forehead in a moment that will leave a lot of us in shock.
Then an ambush by a coalition of militia and natives of the area massacre the group. The surviving men are executed and the ladies offered up as sex slaves, before a likely similar fate.
No. None of that was in Oregon Trail.
But the battle shakes you, and I’m happy to see Betty Gilpin back in action here as Sara (we’ll get you a starring vehicle, Betty). And ole Tim Riggins or Taylor Kitsch, is there to kind of save the day.
If you’re here because you wanted to know if you weren’t the only one who thought that battle was intense, then know you are not alone. And you are completely seen here.
What did you think of the first episode of American Primeval? Let me know in the comments.
