The Pitt: The Mystery of the Dr. McKay ankle monitor
Update #1 from episode 3: “I’ve personally been on the wrong side of someone who hates women. It’s not a safe place to be”
Is it possible that the father of McKay’s baby was abusive and did she catch a charge fighting back?
Dr. Mike also nodded. Does he know what that means?
Earlier in the episode, Dr. Langdon was asked by Victoria about her personal life and he didn’t offer much help besides knowing she was a mother.
The Pitt premiered on HBO Max this week, and it’s off to a terrific start, with Noah Wyle doing some wonderful work, as a veteran ER doctor slogging his way through a tough shift at a Pittsburgh hospital (not his first time as you probably know). I’m already looking forward to the rest of the season.
But let’s talk about the biggest out of nowhere mystery of the two episode premiere. Dr. McKay’s ankle monitor.

Fiona Dourif plays the 42 year old doctor, who takes a younger doctor, Victoria, under her wing after the 20 year old whiz kid and daughter of two established doctors, passes out during a gruesome procedure.
McKay has got an inspiring story. She’s a single mom, who worked her way through medical school, and is probably the kindest person you meet during the first two hours of the shift.
But then, out of nowhere, an alarm goes off. It’s Dr. McKay’s ankle monitor. A device used to keep track of rehabilitating criminals on probation.
It’s a shock because McKay is such a sweet presence. And it spawns about a dozen other questions.
What exactly did she do? Is the father of her kid, a creep or something? Did she have to beat him down?
How did it affect her career?
Was she in danger of losing her license?
And what happens now that the alarm went off? Is she going to get in trouble?
All of this matters because The Pitt appears to be about a group of medical professionals helping others while they fight their own demons and distractions.
It was a curve ball that I didn’t see coming. And just one reason why I’ll be coming back next week.
