Shifting Gears: We need Brenda Song’s Caitlin as a recurring character
Oh ABC, you give us nice things, we’re going to want to keep them.
Of course, Brenda Song is not a thing. She’s a talented actress, and she had a nice reunion with Kat Dennings on the second episode of Shifting Gears last night, playing the Vice Principal of Riley’s son.
While I wasn’t a Dollface viewer, I enjoyed the connection her character, Caitlin, had with Riley.

And even more importantly, the obstacle she creates for any Riley and Gabe romance that will inevitably come up (hopefully, a long while from now).
Yeah, it costs, money. But I’ll mention that the second episode of “Shifting Gears” was better than the premiere. You know why?
Because, it could be a very serviceable ensemble with one more character.
I’ve mentioned I don’t want another Tim Allen show. We’ve had that for 30 years. But Matt picked his shots carefully last night, and passed the ball more. It helped the flow. and made his contributions more meaningful.
“If they have diabetes, why are they dancing?” is a very valid (and funny) question.
But the truth is that with a fourth actor, who can carry a plot, it gives us a few more places we can go. It also allows us to work in combos. Caitlin could work with Riley or Gabe, and even Matt in a parent pinch hitting situation like he had.
To end the feedback on a good note, I enjoyed the second episode enough to take the effort to write this post. And adding just a little more to the recipe could really take the show further.
