First Green Bay screening of “Major League” in honor of Bob Uecker almost sells out
This afternoon, I had the pleasure of watching my favorite baseball movie in honor of “Mr. Baseball” Bob Uecker, who we lost earlier this month. He was 90 years old.
Marcus Theaters will be hosting screenings of “Major League” in the coming days to give fans a chance to remember Uecker, who plays outspoken announcer Harry Doyle in the film. Tickets for the film are only $5.40 in honor of Uecker who was the voice of the Milwaukee Brewers for 54 seasons, and a portion of the sales will go towards the Brewers Community Foundation.
My screening of the film was almost sold out.
Indeed, I arrived a few minutes late for the film to get a look at the sales, and had to sit in the front row because of all of the other seats were already taken.
Of course, the audience for the 36 year old film leaned older in the non premium theater. It was my first time actually watching it on the big screen as opposed to when I rented it from Blockbuster Video as a kid.
It’s still such a great film. We get Uecker. We get a young Charlie Sheen as Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn. We get Tom Berenger and Corbin Bernsen in star roles during their headlining days.
And who would have thought that the last two roles I saw Wesley Snipes playing on the big screen in 2025 were Blade (Deadpool and Wolverine) and of course, Willie “Mayes” Hayes here.
All of the memorable lines still hit nicely, with Uecker responsible for about half of them.
Being able to watch Major League on the big screen for the first time, while remembering Uecker so many years later, was wonderful, and I was grateful to have the chance.
What is your favorite part of Major League? Let me know in the comments.
