Good American Family: E3 confronts “Orphan” and Michael is an idiot
One of the biggest critiques of “Good American Family” when we got a look at the trailer was that the Hulu show looked too much like the horror/thriller “Orphan”, where a women with dwarfism pretends to be a child, so that she can be adopted and victimize a family.
But the Emily Pompeo mystery/drama tackles that film head on in episode 3, which hit streamers this week.
While visiting a friend, Kristine, is actually told that her situation is similar to the “plot” of the film. And she’s none to happy to hear that the child eventually kills a parent.
The synopsis of the film inspires Kristine to be more aggressive in disciplining Natalia Grace.
But only one problem. Her husband, Michael continues to be an idiot. Almost to the point of where believabilty of the plot gets compromised.
Now, “Good American Family” and Pompeo herself, has been deliberately vague when describing the recipe for “Good American Family.”
This isn’t to mislead us, it’s that the story really is that complicated and has so many moving parts that makes the truth is difficult to define.
And that’s becoming an issue on the show, because Michael, in blackmailing Kristine to protect Natalia is proving to be quite the proper idiot in all of this.
We now have to wait to see where they’re going with this.
They have to make Natalia appear more believable in her actions because I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t throw in her into special care at this point.
Even if this was really the way she acts out as a child.
