WWE took a step back with love of Puerto Rico by having Tony Hinchliffe on commentary

On Monday Night Raw this week, controversial comic Tony Hinchliffe was given the opportunity to do commentary doing the broadcast. He began trending in the negative on social media over his appearance after making fun of Big E’s neck injury, and his existing reputation.

Tony Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” last year during his appearance at a political rally.

While I’ve been a fan of WWE for 40 years, I have to say that I was very disappointed seeing Hinchcliffe given the platform as a reward for his bad behavior. A little upset at Netflix too for not speaking up.

Especially given the wWE relationship with Puerto Rican fans on the island. You’ll recall the epic main event at Backlash between Bad Bunny and Damian Priest a couple of years back. They still talk about it on the island, and I thanked Priest personally during a stop in Green Bay last year.

But having Hinchcliffe on a show that I’ve enjoyed for such a long time made me turn off the television.

His defenders are predictable. They say he’s an insult comic, and that apparently gives him license to say whatever he pleases.

What they fail to notice is that insult comics tend to punch up. You’ve seen a roast. The roastee is usually being honored for a successful career.

Hinchcliffe wasn’t honoring Puerto Rico last year. Instead, he punched down on an island that in 2025 is still struggling to have a stable power grid. And he’s inspired the trolls to continue doing so to this day.

There are so many other better choices out there to gift the opportunity of being able call a WWE show. Any of the established content creators we enjoy would have been a better pick.

Instead we got someone who monetized hating on the island where so many WWE fans call home.
