The Handmaid’s Tale: Five Take Aways from the Season Six Premiere
After a long lay off, the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale has finally arrived, and we’ve got a lot to talk about. Let’s not waste anymore time discussing our return to Gilead.
Here are five take aways from the season six premiere (first three episodes) of The Handmaid’s Tale.
Serena Joy is gonna Serena Joy: When we’re reunited with June and Serena, we learn that Serena Joy is oblivious to the damage she’s caused her former Handmaid, and is just talking like nothing ever happened. It’s not long before she’s discovered and she’s defiant to the other woman on the train, and June has to throw her off of it to save her life. When she gets the chance to once again take a leadership role in New Bethlehem, she goes right back to being the SJ we all know.
The Holly reunion was well done: June’s mom is alive and well in Alaska, and she gets to see June and meet her granddaughter in a scene that might have been the happiest of the series, save that plane taking off so long ago.
It doesn’t feel like both Nick and Luke will see the end: We got another Luke and Nick meet, and the cordial tone continued. Nick had to take out a couple of guardians for June to escape, but his risk taking, along with Luke’s reckless behavior is a recipe for problems.
Aunt Lydia hasn’t given up on Janine: We get this less pleasant reunion between the two. And Lydia begs Lawrence to take her back. But it ain’t happening. However don’t expect Lydia to give up.
It feels like Serena Joy vs. June is once again endgame: Despite June saving her life, it just feels like Serena Joy will choose power. And if the series doesn’t end with a final confrontation with these two, it would be unexpected.
