California should support SB 296 granting Property Tax Exemptions for Disabled Veterans
Legislation that would grant disabled veterans property tax exemptions, is being proposed in California, and it would provide an incredible amount of aid for a region that needs as many tools as possible to keeping their veterans housed.
SB 296, which is being sponsored by State Senator Bob Archuleta would grant property tax exemptions for veterans who have 100 percent disability (story HERE).
For the fiscal hawks out there, the main term in the previous paragraph would be 100 percent. Many veterans will exit with some measure of disability, but the 100 percent classification would ensure those who truly need the assistance would get it.
Other veteran heavy states such as Texas and my native Florida already have the measure. While there are still plenty of problems keeping veterans housed in those states as well, it would be great to see this legislation get picked up in California too.
And California, perhaps more than any other state in the country needs help keeping their veterans housed. You’ll recall the camps in Los Angeles consisting of veterans that stretched along the streets for long distances.
If you live in California, call your state lawmakers and ask them to get behind SB 296.
