Ironheart: S1E1 “Take Me Home” Premiere Recap

If you’re here then “Ironheart” has done enough to make you care. With super hero fatigue still weighing a lot of us down, Ironheart has a bigger role than you think with Fantastic Four just a couple of weeks away. We need refreshing and fun content.

What Happens On “Take Me Home”?: We begin with Riri and Natalie speaking out their dreams on video. “Bigger than Stark” “Bigger than Pym” are thrown out there but “I just want to be happy” from Natalie takes us to the Marvel intro.

Next we see Riri selling concepts to try to fund her ideas. And after the latest of what are a series of mishaps in the lab, she’s expelled from school. But as she leaves she dons her suit and flies away. We meet Trvor her AI assistant.

We then shift to what appears to be a robbery by some high tech crooks. The robbery is botched and we meet Parker Robbins who appears to be the leader of the group.

Riri makes it to Chicago but her suit dies. After crash landing, a young boy named Landon offers to help her carry her tech home. We meet her mother Ronnie and her friend Madeline. Just as they start prying as to why she was expelled, Xavier comes in and rescues her. The two reminisce about Gary, Xavier’s stepdad, and Natalie. We see John from Parker’s crew spying.

And it’s John who ducks in and pays Riri’s bill at the scrap heap as she tries to rebuild her suit. He gives her a card and a time to meet. She heads to the pizza place and when she steps in the elevator, a gas bomb is set and she has to open a device to get a gas mask to keep her conscious. She manages to get the door open and is greeted by applause from the crew.

Parker plays off of her lack of acceptance. After first turning him down, Parker brings out a box of money. Riri relents and we get a handshake.

While shes working on her suit, she starts listening to Xavier’s tape and we get a flashback of the night Gary and Natalie died. Parker and John discuss the future and we see Parker’s body is covered in tattoos and strange markings.

We get a montage of Riri finishing her suit and Parker getting more tattoos and hanging his hood in a menacing room.

As the AI is loading up to Riri’s suit, she starts to dream of Natalie. When she awakes, Natalie is a hologram standing right in front of her as the credits pop.

Quotes:

Riri (voiceover): “Do you think Tony Stark would be Tony Stark if he wasn’t a billionaire? No shade. That’s just how the world works?”

Street Preacher: “Thanos was just the beginning”

Trivia and Observations:

Yep. That’s Jim Rash as Professor Wilkes, who was so funny as Dean Pelton in community.

Cree Summer (Madeline) is “Different World” alumni. She’s also been on Abbott Elementary in a recurring role. Happy to see her working after all of these decades.

A lot of Tony Stark mentions. Always tricky building a relationship with a character you don’t have access to. Looking at Sony and Spiderman here.

Parker’s crew is terribly unlikable. And goodness, who did Anthony Ramos’ costume?

You can almost hear Jeff Bridges AKA Obadiah Stane shouting “Riri Williams built one of these in her kitchen! With some scraps!”
