Happy Gilmore 2 turns beloved golf comedy into just another bad Adam Sandler movie

Back in 1996, Adam Sandler had just hit gold with “Billy Madison”, and “Happy Gilmore” continued his streak of offbeat comedies that bounced off of the bizarre, and thrived off of “out of nowhere humor”.

But then Sandler hit his “Grown Ups” era. This is where his comedy died and it became more about Sandler cramming as many of his buddies and “it” stars of the moment onto the screen instead of actually making a good movie.

And unfortunately, Sandler and Netflix have thrown Happy Gilmore into that pile of unwatchable nonsense.

Indeed, Happy is back after a poorly written tragedy turns him into an alcoholic and his golf game disappears. When his daughter turns out to be a ballet prodigy, he picks up the clubs once more, to try and make enough for her to go to school in Paris.

It’s not funny because it’s not the original Happy Gilmore humor. It’s the garbage Netflix era material (Uncut Gems aside) that we often try to avoid more than enjoy. And the new “buzz celebrity” additions are forced into the story.

Honestly, I wish it had never been made.

Let me try to gin up some positivity. Christopher “Shooter McGavin” McDonald is funny here. John Daly is an exception to overdone cameo spam (I’m so tired of Travis Kelce). The film is made well from the technical aspect because of the advancements in the film industry over the last 30 years.

And that’s about it.

Otherwise, we’ll sadly have to throw Happy Gilmore into the Beverly Hills Cop and That 70s Show aisle of crap that Netflix has revived, only to ruin.
