The Paper: First Trailer Doesn’t Give Us Much To Love Or Hate
The first trailer for “The Paper”, which is the mockumentary spinoff of the beloved “The Office” dropped this week and…
It doesn’t give us that much. I didn’t love it. I didn’t hate it. It didn’t make me laugh. It didn’t make me cringe.
I can tell you what stuck out to me..
Good to see you, Oscar: The trailer’s big moment is the return of Oscar from the OG show. He’s not happy to see the documentary crew and vows to make the footage unusable by swearing when on screen. We’ve been watching Oscar Nunez for decades now and it’s good to see him here.
You too Sabrina Impacciatore: Real White Lotus fans understand that this was their famous resort GM. And we’re hungry to see more from Sabrina here. I’m happy to see her character will be given some fun angles to play with (was that a cat costume?).
It feels more like Parks and Recreation than The Office: Maybe because it’s set in Ohio, and the characters aren’t carrying the sophistication of a professional from Scranton (joking). But this feels more like Pawnee than Dunder Mifflin.
No reaction from me: I didn’t laugh at anything. I also didn’t recoil. We’ve got less than a month before the premiere and I’m not sure what to expect.
Peacock may need to flex “The Office” legacy more: There isn’t any excitement around this show. And if it turns out to be another underappreciated NBC gem, it will be because the parallels to one of the best modern sitcoms we’ve had wasn’t underlined enough.
You can watch the trailer below. Let me know what you think!
