Green Bay Veterans Can’t Endure A Long Government Shutdown

Partisan politics have shut down the federal government again, and Green Bay veterans will once again face the consequences.

Department Of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins has outlined how veterans could be hurt by the shutdown due to a reduction in services.

This includes transportation services for veterans to get to medical appointments, veteran mental health services, and help for veterans experiencing homelessness.

Mind you, that because of state partisan politics, Green Bay already lost a housing program designed to help our brothers and sisters last month (story HERE).

It hasn’t been a good year to be a veteran in Wisconsin, and now we’re going to be paying the price once again, because lawmakers have not only kept fighting in Madison, but now Washington D.C as well.

And these shutdowns could ruin the lives of younger veterans as well. Also on hold, are career services and help with GI Bill support. These are delays that can derail career plans. And therefore future plans for to prevent us from being homeless or in some tragic cases, taking our own lives.

The Green Bay community must come together, and once again keep an eye on our at risk veterans.

This is because it has become apparent that only our neighbors right here in Green Bay are effective at helping veterans. This is both a blessing because of the kind of community we live in, and an initiative spawned by the unfortunate circumstances of dysfunction in higher government.

Hopefully, this shutdown will be short lived. Myself and many other veterans in Northeast Wisconsin are already suffering enough.
