WisDOT Should Move Up Dates on Green Bay Shawano Avenue Improvements

The Wisconsin Department Of Transportation is holding an open house, to gauge public input on a number of improvement plans for Shawano Avenue right here in Green Bay later this month. Many of the concepts sound great (story HERE).

One problem. Those projects wouldn’t begin until 2031. That’s right. Five years from now. The world could be a different place by then.

This is why I agree with many Green Bay leaders that WisDOT should consider moving up the project.

The reasons aren’t super scientific or profound. It’s simply a case of where the most good can be done that would help a large amount of people.

Because lets be real. There are some parts of Shawano Avenue that feel like you’re driving on the surface of the moon. Its a bumpy ride and its getting bumpier everyday, which takes a toll on our vehicles.

And as we head into the winter months, that wear and tear will only get worse. A bad experience on Shawano could lead to repairs moving into the holiday season. An expense many families can’t afford right now.

There are also times when Shawano is a handshake to new visitors in the area. They may be wandering towards downtown from the Stadium District after having some lunch on Military, next thing you know they’re spilling their coffee all over their rental car because of Shawano avenue.

Best to get it fixed sooner than later.

The most efficient way to get this done, is to (politely and professionally) make your voice heard. Let everyone know that repairs on Shawano Avenue can’t wait until the next decade.
