Last week, some bad people plastered fake wanted posters of a couple of Green Bay City Council members, lobbing false accusations, and putting those elected officials at risk. This during a time when political violence in the nation has resulted in several attacks across the country. (story HERE)

Whoever did this should be discovered and charged by law enforcement officials.

This is because Northeast Wisconsin keeps tip-toeing towards a violent event.

In addition to the posters of council members we’ve seen..

Our elected member of the House Of Representatives threatened (story HERE).

We’ve seen bracelets handed out at public events wishing violence against the President (story HERE).

These are warning signs that must be taken seriously.

And then there is the actual effectiveness of these flyers. Or lack of effectiveness in this case.

This won’t move the needle on Green Bay coming before the Common Council. I can assure you of that. Mostly because many of the accusations on these flyers worked out favorably for those that printed them. I was in the room during these voter. They’re not telling the truth.

There is a right way to do this. This isn’t is.

The right way is transparency, dialog, and a clear goal. This dangerous stunt accomplishes none of these things.

Our political debates need to be fought in the open. That’s what elections are for. And we’re still neighbors. Everyone should get to go home to their families and everyone should feel safe.

Let’s hope the people that did this are brought forward. And let’s hope that we can move on past this violent period of politics both in Northeast Wisconsin and across the United States.
