How A Kitten Rescue By Neenah Police Won Back Some Skeptical Hearts

I love stories like these. Especially when there is a lesson to learn from both the perspective of a community observer like myself, and in being a good person overall.

This week, two Neenah Police officers rescued a kitten trapped in a storm drain while performing a traffic stop. That kitten is recovering at a local shelter (story HERE).

Now, you might be thinking “Hey, Frank. What’s so special about rescuing a cat?” and after judging you as a dog-person I would offer this.

There are other police officers who have recently made different decisions.

I appreciate all of my first responders. And I’m not going to give legs to a story most of us would rather forget, that also came from right here in Northeast Wisconsin. If you know you know.

The truth is that these Neenah police officers made some public relations repairs with their kitten rescue. That’s a step towards restoring the public’s trust.

And its also a more accurate portrayal of local law enforcement and their relationship with animals.

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, I’m a big fan of the K9 unit right here in Green Bay. I’ve been fortunate enough to spend time with these officers three times this year and it never gets old. (story HERE). I wish I had the kind of relationships these dogs have with their handlers.

And we also can’t forget the fawn rescue made up there in Door County that had all of us clapping (story HERE).

The truth is that our cops love animals. And the public needs to know that.

Note: Pictured kitten is not the actual kitten rescued
