Mason Manor Renovations Is Another Hard Fought Affordable Housing Touchdown For Green Bay

Many of you know, I struggle with housing. As I type these words, I do so with almost no options, and in proximity to a dangerous drug dealing, sex offender who slipped by Green Bay restrictions (story HERE).

But I hold out hope for a better future because Green Bay hasn’t given up on making sure that everyone who is working a hard full time job has a place to call home.

Many municipalities didn’t see the warning signs of the affordable housing crisis which has been going on for years now. Green Bay reacted faster than most and they’re slugging it out, before more families are thrown out in the street.

An example of this are the renovations to Mason Manor (story HERE). Its eight stories and has over 150 units. Many of you see this building when you drive past it almost everyday.

It serves an important purpose. There are health care workers in there. There are education workers that call the building home. Important members of our manufacturing organizations wouldn’t be able to live in Green Bay without it.

And all of these industries would be even more shorthanded without affordable housing.

There are a lot of well cloaked opponents of affordable housing. Many of them are bad actors in the real estate industry. They only care about their own bottom line. Nothing else matters.

But it’s a great sign for Green Bay when we install leaders that are not only creating new affordable housing opportunities, but taking care of the old ones as well.

Let’s hope this trend continues into the future.
