Last night while watching that excellent Saturday Night Live episode (review HERE) I heard a joke that sounded strangely familiar.

It was on Weekend Update from Puxatawney Phil the Groundhog (yes, he talked for this one) and one of his jokes were…

“A weather predicting groundhog in 2023. I’m useless. I’m like a condom in Nick Cannon’s wallet.”

Now everyone knows that The Masked Singer host’s reproductive activities gets him a lot of attention online. But this was strange.

I wonder where I had heard that joke before. And it struck me.

Four days earlier on American Auto (that review HERE).

When show star Ana Gasteyer proclaims during a company crisis “This is not the time to sit around and do nothing. Like a condom in Nick Cannon’s wallet.”

Now, it’s possible the average TV watcher won’t put the jokes together. And it’s almost a certainty that everyone has more to do in life than I do by watching hours of television everyday. It’s really not a huge deal.

But we should stare down our glasses at the practice. Cable and streaming fees are going up. They’re not going down and a little originality is appreciated.

Nevertheless both shows had a good week. And both episodes using that Nick Cannon joke are pretty good.

I suppose the real question is.. What does Nick Cannon think?
