Young Rock: This is a worthy end to the series
This week, Young Rock probably aired it’s last episode. “False Ceilings” was a beautiful love letter to the family of Dwayne Johnson that did everything it needed to do.
It is a worthy series finale if need be. It should be the series finale.
Let’s look at what I thought was the most important dream of the entire show. Dewey buying his parents a house. I remember the press conference cutaways, including the checkdown to a responsible “ranch style home earlier in the program. DJ got to take care of his family. Something all of us dream of doing.
There was also a nice ending point for his career. Things didn’t slow down for Dwayne Johnson after “The Mummy Returns”. After that it was “The Scorpion King” “The Rundown” “Walking Tall” and everything else is history.
Let’s get this discussion about ratings out of the way. NBC has managed to take a show starring one of the biggest movie stars in the world and not promote it to success. We had Dwayne Johnson on TV every week and the show never really took off the way it should have. I’ll never understand that.
I’m going to treat this like the series finale. And the real message of the show for me wasn’t about Johnson. It was about his family. And this wonderful cast.
Stacy Leilua as Ata was the MVP for me. Such a heartful actor.
Joseph Lee Anderson was awesome. He was a great Rocky Johnson and played both the highs and the lows really well.
Ana Tuisila played Lia well, and I enjoyed how good she was to her grandson even when the family feud was happening.
And finally, Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant, and Uli Latukefu. Young, Younger, and Youngest Rock. They were all excellent. I want to see them all again.
Let’s see what happens.
If this turns out to be the end, “Young Rock” was a lot of fun and at times emotionally rewarding to watch. And that’s why I do this.
