“Our Flag Means Death” wasn’t for me. While the second half of it’s first season got stronger after we met Taika Waititi’s Blackbeard, the series simply wasn’t that funny. But it did push a strong positive message for viewers to be themselves, and a mild and hopeful cliffhanger (which could also be a functioning finale if need be).

And that message has inspired fans to take to Twitter with #RenewOurFlagMeansDeath , so much so that it was trending on Grammy/Wrestlemania Sunday on a busy afternoon for social media.

One question HBO will have for these viewers is where were they when the show premiered? This is the most noise it’s made online, and there was almost no fanfare each week when new episodes were released.
