The Bear: Yes, Claire is way too good for Carmy and doesn’t exist in real life

Pushing my way through the second season of The Bear (I’m a one person blog and can’t binge, thanks Hulu) and I’ve reached “Pop” where I was able to really appreciate how great Claire has been.

The only thing is that she doesn’t really exist. She may as well be the “Mother of Dragons” or “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”.

It’s true.

And even in fiction, Carmy doesn’t deserve her.

So, let me get this straight. We’re going to run into this gorgeous high school crush.

We’re going to give her a fake number. And she is going to find us.

She is going to end up being an emergency medical doctor. A real life super hero.

She is going to look past our social insecurities and take us to a party. Then arrange for us to leave anytime we don’t feel comfortable.

She will then sit back as our family gets into a fight in the middle of our failing operation and still be there for me when it’s all over?

Don’t get me wrong. These aren’t complaints about the show. The entire season has been beautifully done up to this point and Molly Gordon is crushing it as Claire.

It’s actually a compliment because we wish we could come across these kinds of nights. These kinds of experiences.

The truth is that in real life, we’ll run away screaming from anything that looks like this. Doctors don’t date people like this. We judge others decisively better and move on quickly.

But maybe that’s why this show is tracking so well. It eventually looks to bring out the best in everybody it presents to us…
