Hijack: Sam and the other passengers are way too nice to the terrorists, unless this is happening
The latest “Hijack” dropped today, and the Idris Elba action thriller has really come to a nice boil, with a slick mix of suspense and mystery.
As strange as it sounds, we’re also getting an element of community building that’s occurring here. We understand which of the passengers are kind, and the others who can be a pain in the rear. That’s a good thing. This is how viewers get invested.
But our main protagonist, Sam Nelson, is still something of an enigma to me. We saw him essentially save the life of one of the terrorists. That young man would have for sure died if Sam didn’t insist on the guy’s partner looking for help and later screaming for a doctor. Elba played the part well though. There was some ambiguity at play. I knew he wanted the phone but I was also prepared for him to finish the wounded attacker off afterwards. That never happened.
Let’s face it. You put John McClane on that flight and this series is an episode long.
But Nelson knows more than we do. He’s being kind to these attackers and so are the other passengers on the flight. The entire tone of the show is moving towards being sympathetic to these attackers.
There are only two ways this could happen.
Either the writers were lost. If they are, they sure stumbled on to some great TV.
Or… and this is more likely, the hostages are also being held hostage or being put in a position where they must take this plane.
It looks like we’re going to find that out in the next episode. That envelope of DEMANDS should give us a lot more insight into what’s taking place.
I’m having fun though. On to the next one.
