The Horrors of Dolores Roach: Macbeth Act 5, Scene 5

The Horrors of Dolores Roach certainly gives the viewers a lot to think about, and with every death on the show there seems to be a twist or a chaotic element which makes the entire experience a lot more intense.

Let’s examine the death of Ruthie the Investigator played by Cyndi Lauper (yes, that Cyndi Lauper, wrote more on that HERE).

Ruthie invites herself into the basement apartment where Dolores is staying with Luis. She mentions that she is able to determine where Gideon is by the signal being put out by his pacemaker, which Luis keeps as a trophy from his kill. This leads to a really nasty struggle with Dolores and the two stumble over to Hector, who is still presumably dead on the massage table. Ruthie tries to strike a truce with Dolores (that she really should have taken) but Dolores instead dumps Hector on top of Ruthie.

Then the dude actually comes back to life. Dolores stabs him with a broken bottle of massage oil (that oil killed him twice by the way) and his weight crushes Ruthie..

But before she dies, Ruthie mentions Macbeth Act 5, Scene 5.

I looked it up HERE

The synopsis reads..

Macbeth is confident that he can withstand any siege from Malcolm’s forces. He is then told of Lady Macbeth’s death and of the apparent movement of Birnam Wood toward Dunsinane Castle, where he waits. He desperately resolves to abandon the castle and give battle to Malcolm in the field.

Was that supposed to mean something? I’m not sure. I’m not a Shakespeare guy. I watched the MacBeth movie with Denzel and Frances McDormand and the Romeo and Juliet modernized 1997 film with Leo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. That’s about the reach of my Shakespearean knowledge.

Maybe Dolores is supposed to be MacBeth who is watching the walls close in on her. Maybe Ruthie is supposed to be the queen. It’s never really spelled out for us. The episode featurette doesn’t say anthing.

But it’s intense. And its good TV.

What do you think it means? Let me know in the comments below!
