Ahsoka: Yes, the show gives us a Tarantino “Deathproof” reunion

Ahsoka has arrived on streamers this week and is off to a solid start in telling the tale of a canonical extended Star Wars universe character in Ahsoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson).

And in watching the show, you might not recognize that General Hera Syndulla is played by another superhero, Sci Fi Favorite in Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Her makeup and prosthetics are as impressive or even more so than Dawson’s.

But myself along with many crossover fans of Star Wars and the Quentin Tarantino universe have noticed that Ahsoka has also given us a “Deathproof” reunion.

Dawson plays Abernathy and Winstead, Lee her cheerleader outfitted companion, with the former having to avoid a deadly stunt driver who enjoys stalking women in his vehicles modified to protect him from being killed in an accident.

Deathproof was part of the Grindhouse double feature which also featured “Planet Terror”, a marathon of a watch with commercials designed to replicate the late 70s theater experience of campy presentations.

The duo isn’t the first to cross over from Tarantino land to the Star Wars Universe. Samuel L. Jackson has starred in several Tarantino films while playing Jedi Mace Windu in the prequels. While Ahsoka and Mace share a timeline in the cartoons a live action reunion in unlikely with the apparent death of Windu in “Revenge of the Sith”. Tragically, the death comes at the hands of Anakin Skywalker, who was Ahsoka’s master before becoming Darth Vader.

Can you identify any other Star Wars or Pulp Fiction connections? Let me know in the comments below.
