Saturday Night Live: Fans speculate how Shane Gillis and Bowen Yang will work together
Saturday Night Live has a lot going on these days with bold decisions being made on the personalities they’re allowing to appear on the show.
Last weekend, Republican Presidential candidate and former United Nations Ambassador, Nikki Haley, was given a flattering appearance during the cold open, where she questioned “Donald Trump” (James Austin Johnson). Comedian Dave Chappelle continues to have a strong relationship with the show despite his controversial jokes about the LGBTQ+ community with a recent appearance of his own.
And now, comedian Shane Gillis, who was fired days after footage of offensive remarks surfaced, is now returning to host the show later this month.
Some of those words included the Asian community, which has many wondering how he’ll work with Bowen Yang during his upcoming appearance. Yang has not been shy about voicing his opinions regarding guests, including Haley with some recently deleted social media traffic.
This has fans wondering how he’ll interact with Gillis..

Dave Chappelle one week, Shane Gillis the next, it’s like they want Bowen Yang to quit https://t.co/HRA3vk7LvD

having Shane Gillis host SNL is insane considering y’all fired him for being racist and homophobic. and I feel bad Bowen Yang for having to put up with a nasty comedian that hates every part of his existence. here’s what he said about Asian and LGBTQ+ people https://t.co/bVny1wQt1o pic.twitter.com/cJsgF2aWni

I can’t imagine how Bowen Yang sticks around for another season of SNL after the garbage they’ve pulled this season. Shane Gillis hosting, for real?

Do you think they'll make Bowen Yang do the ads with Shane Gillis?

Bowen Yang is going to call out sick for that Shane Gillis episode

Shane Gillis’s SNL Monologue will probably just be from his stand up set, but I guarantee the writers staff will pitch a bit where Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang talk about the good old days from their first season as if Shane was there just for him to keep saying he got fired.

Shane Gillis was fired from SNL, for a history of extremely racist remarks, but 5yrs later, he gets to host?
Bowen Yang needs to go somewhere else. With Dave Chappelle's recent BS, to this utter BS
…like, it's time to jump this sinking ship. @nbcsnl has completely lost it https://t.co/vdah3vLGrV— André The Giant 3000 (@Teen_Cthulhu) February 4, 2024
Shane Gillis monologue should just be him silently presenting a slide show of every time they’ve dressed Bowen Yang up as a Panda or a Spy Balloon since they fired him

And given the unpredictable nature of Saturday Night Live, we’re not sure what will happen. It’s possible that Gillis and Yang won’t appear together. It’s also conceivable that Gillis might apologize and the two will do a musical number together. There is no way of telling.
