Getting Into Politics: Dealing with Ring doorbell cameras

There has been a new philosophy in campaign politics over the last few years, and it’s a very true philosophy.

Campaigns are always on camera.

Nothing makes this more true than home security cameras, or Ring Doorbells, that puts political canvassers on a camera at almost every door.

You must always be aware of the electronic eyes watching you. While nothing will happen if you do your job correctly or even well. You had better believe that everything will happen if you’re doing something bad while knocking on doors.

If you litter on someone else’s property, it will end up on camera.

If you hit the vape, it will end up on camera.

If you’re texting or having a conversation on the phone, it will end up on camera in audio.

And you’d better believe your candidate’s opponent will use that video against you. It will hurt the campaign, and in a close race every single vote counts, especially in municipal races.

You don’t want to be the reason your candidate loses the race. It’s happened before.

What you want to do is always remember that your being taped and act like it. Be the consummate professional. Look good. Walk tall. And pick up after yourself.

And remember. You’re always on camera. This also includes when the voter is home and the conversation takes place.

Just be friendly and kind. If you don’t know the answer to a question, tell them your a volunteer helping out and that you’ll have someone get back to them.

Yes, cameras are a political canvassing reality. But don’t let them rattle your game. You’re going to do great.
