The Acolyte: Explaining the factory reset Mae did to Pip
If you were watching this week’s episode of The Acolyte, then you’re familiar with the “Parent Trap” scenario that played out in front of us, with Osha and Mae swapping places amidst the blood bath chaos last week, when Qimir decimated the group of Jedi on Khofar.
Osha was picked up by Qimir, and Mae went with Sol.
Let’s talk about Mae and how she attempted to fool the Jedi Master and everyone else into thinking she was her sister.
One droid who instantly identified her was Pip, Osha’s handheld companion, who’s help Mae needed in repairing the ship.

When Pip refused, Mae announced he was going to reset him to his factory settings. And just like a cellphone, she holds down a couple of buttons and wipes his memory. His eyes turn red and he cooperates.
What did Mae do? Did she kill Pip?
She didn’t kill Pip but basically reset everything he knows.
Does this mean that he’s gone forever? Well, it depends on how the showrunners decide to handle it.
There is a lot going on in the Acolyte, and not many episodes left. You should be prepared to just eat the disappointment if they don’t revisit Pip.
C3PO and R2D2 had their memories wiped after the prequels. That’s why they didn’t remember Obi Wan or what used to be Anakin in a New Hope. They ended up fine.
But Pip is at the end of the day a computer. They could have him backed up somewhere. It would be a nice touch for Osha to get her droid back.
Still, The Acolyte hasn’t concerned itself with very many happy resolutions. It’s tough to think they’ll turn back for our little Pip.
