“The Fall Guy” plunges onto Prime Video with mixed results
When the previews for “The Fall Guy” came out, I was pretty hyped. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are two of the best doing it today, and you could even feel their chemistry in the small sample size we’re given during the trailers.

While the film is okay, it’s actually a miscalculation in the on screen relationship between “The Fall Guy’s” two stars that holds the movie back.
Gosling plays stuntman, Colt Seavers, who falls for movie director, Jody Moreno (Blunt). After an on-set accident, the two lose touch until Seavers is called back to action by producer, Gail Meyer (Hannah Waddingham throwing us off with dark hair), who tasks him in finding Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), the star of “Metal Storm” who has gone missing and put Jody’s film in jeopardy.
The problem here is the actual relationship between Colt and Jody. It’s weird, man. They’ve got their own world, and that’s charming, but the dialog and some of the sequences where we’re expected to become invested, simply don’t work. You might argue that their relationship is the worst part of the movie.
What “The Fall Guy” does deliver is some excellent action. Director David Leitch keeps his “Bullet Train” of excitement going here. I enjoyed watching Colt use every kind of vehicle imaginable to save his love’s movie and there are a few laugh out loud moments that will keep you from slipping away.
“The Fall Guy” underachieves. It’s OK, but it should have been great. We’ve got four of the Hollywood’s hottest actors here, and it should have been so much more.
You can watch “The Fall Guy” on Amazon Prime Video now.
