Devil May Cry: They for real went with “Rollin” by Limp Bizkit as the opening song
When we watch “Devil May Cry” premiere in April on Netflix, you might hear a familiar opening track for the video game.
Or to your parents it may sound familiar.
Indeed, it’s “Rollin” by Limp Bizkit that is the opening song for the animated series based on the super popular video game franchise.
The choice is unusual, because in the year of 2025, Limp Bizkit is kind of a relic of a musical era that saw the invention of rap metal.
But make no mistake, a quarter of a century ago, Limp Bizkit, along with others like Linkin Park, Korn, and Kid Rock, were the antidote to an era that was dominated by boy bands like N’Sync and the Backstreet Boys.
Fred Durst, the red capped front man of the group was everywhere, and this was the TRL (Total Request Live) era of music, where if you were between the ages of 13 and 26, when you came home, you turned on MTV and spent almost every afternoon with Britney Spears, Nelly, and yes, Limp Bizkit.
Those who may object to Limp Bizkit playing “Devil May Cry” on, might be disappointed to learn that the game is almost as old. The first rendition was released in 2001, just a year after “Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water” was released. At the time, “Rollin” was the most expensive music video ever made.
So, yeah, Limp Bizkit may feel like something of a punchline right now, but for original fans of the game, they may find themselves right at home when they begin streaming each episode.
