Green Bay Draft Reimbursement Arrives But We Can’t Forget Snub by WI Legislature

Well, it looks like the men and women of Greater Green Bay Law Enforcement will get the reimbursement they deserve, after the Opportunity Attraction and Promotion Fund program is expected to kick in $1.8 million to the Green Bay, Brown County, and Ashwaubenon.

That is great news. I’m happy. You should be happy too. We had an ultra successful and safe draft because of local law enforcement.

But don’t forget the sleight by the state legislative finance committee who denied us (story HERE). We never should have had to receive this program funding to begin with.

And while many of you probably don’t keep score, I do. And I’m not soon going to forget that the Madison politicians enjoyed the statewide economic impact we provided with our hard work, and decided we don’t deserve to be properly compensated for it.

It’s a different pot of money. But make no mistake, it’s still money. And properly allocated state budget funds could have freed up this funding to go towards another eligible event or program.

And it can’t be underlined enough that this money wasn’t for some bizarre project that would have provided contact lenses for elderly house cats, it was for public safety. It’s about stopping bad guys and keeping people alive.

This was a correction that had to be made.

We also can’t forget how this resonates to the men and women who are actually out there keep us safe. They read newspapers. They see these politicians saying “no”.

What this funding did was reinforce our faith in the good work they’re doing while risking their own lives every day.
