The Book of Boba Fett: Our Star Wars meets “The Sopranos” premiere soars (Spoilers!!!)
Warning!!! The following contains spoilers to the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett!!!
“They keep getting this stuff right.”
That’s what I texted a friend of mine after watching “Stranger in a strange land”. The premiere of The Book of Boba Fett which dropped this morning on Disney Plus.
Really, I’ve got nothing but mostly nice things to say.
Jon Favreau and Robert Rodriguez have acquired such a mastery of telling an emotional story with a mostly masked protagonist over the past couple of years. They did it with the Mandalorian and they’re doing it again here.
Temuera Morrison’s Fett, and the always superb Ming-na Wen kicked off this episode trying to find their way ruling Jabba The Hutt’s empire on Tatooine.
We’re reminded that yeah, Jabba is a crime lord, and so is Boba now. There are times when it feels like the Sopranos as he’s collecting payment from his community and dealing with regular threats.
That’s a compliment.
Listen. The action is first class as always. The scenes in the desert with the Tusken Raiders. The ambush in the town square. Even crawling out of the Sarlaac pit. It was all exciting. And it radiated this Episode I kind of raw energy.
It’s not pretty action like we got in the sequels. It’s a raw type of action that Rodriguez imported from Desperado and Machete. I can’t wait to see where this goes.
This is because it’s truly an open road. We knew The Mandalorian would eventually bring us to Luke Skywalker or Ahsoka.
We don’t know where “Book’ is taking us. But let’s just lean back and enjoy the ride.
If you like what you’re reading, please consider helping the blog. It’s just me here and every little bit helps. Thank you!
