The Real Love Boat: Cancelling show latest proof of lack of patience for “Bachelor” success
The Real Love Boat has been cancelled by CBS.
The reality TV show, which was inspired by the scripted classic, wasn’t drawing well enough for the network to stick with it.
It was also an FTR show, and one that I actually enjoyed, which irks me. The Real Love Boat was fun.
But this is just the latest example of show runners refusing to exercise patience with a Bachelor alternative.
Everyone wants Bachelor numbers, but no one wants to take the time. It also didn’t help that The Real Love Boat was up against some tough prime time competition.
There have been some promising concepts. The Joe Millionaire reboot was fun. The Courtship was also not bad. We’ve got show runners taking chances and then pulling the plug too soon.
And now we’re getting a re-run of The Equalizer. A good show, but we’re not advancing with new ideas. CBS could have at least aired East New York in that spot to grow more of a following on that show.
I’m not sure if I’m going to keep reviewing The Real Love Boat. Let me know in the comments if you’d like me to follow it on Paramount Plus.
