The Last of Us: Trailers for season finale don’t tease the end of the first video game

Relax. No video game or season finale spoilers here.

Wow. Did you watch this week’s “The Last of Us”? You must have. Otherwise I don’t know why you’re here.

Anywho. We’ll get to the events of this week’s show in a second. But I want to talk about the trailer for the first season finale. Keep in mind the show has already been renewed for a second season.

It doesn’t look like we’ll reach the end of the first video game. If you’ve played the game, you realize that there are some very strong distinctions with that ending that we don’t see in the finale footage. It looks like we might end up with Joel and Ellie continuing their travels to meet the Fireflies. There is a second video game, but that might be for the third or fourth season if they wanted it to be.

Let’s talk about Bella Ramsey. Specifically, the best performance of her young career.

Ellie became both a true hero this week. The scene with the deer. Cornering David into giving her the penicillin needed to save Joel. And then leading the pack away from him, giving her father figure the extra time needed to take out his attackers and then launch a rescue of his own.

Not that she would even need his help.

The escape that played out like a zombie apocalypse version of “Home Alone”. Ellie didn’t have to overpower this false prophet, David, and his “sheep”. She just had to outsmart them. And when it finally came time for Ellie to defend herself against this evil POS, she cleavered him to death in the most gruesome way possible.

And I’m not sure there was a dry eye in an HBO house during that reunion, where we see Ellie, face spackled with blood, hugging Joel and crying.

That’s a bleeping hero right there.

I can’t wait till the season finale. See you there!
