Beef: Show dropped an obscure “Bravestarr” reference Gen Xers might remember fondly

Beef is an excellent show. I don’t often blog about it because it airs on Netflix and they use the toxic binge formula, which makes for bad television viewing. It’s like eating an entire buffet all at once.

But program is a treasure trove of references that Generation X can remember, from the soundtrack, to the cartoon I’m about to mention right now.

When Issac weasels his way from house arrest to the church where Danny is working, he’s holding court with members of the congregation and gets to talking about old times.

He mentions playing with GI Joes and other toys, including Bravestarr..

I couldn’t believe what I’d heard. Issac even mentions that we won’t know what it is.

I know what it is, Issac. I know.

Bravestarr was a late 80s Western Science Fiction cartoon. Pre Briscoe County Jr. Pre Wild Wild West.

It was a neat cartoon with a catchy theme song.

“Eye of a Hawk. Ears of a Wolf. Strength of a Bear. Speed of a Puma. Brave Starr.”

I felt seen. Well played, Steven Yeun. Well played.
