Quantum Leap: Notes from the “This took too long!” S2 premiere
The season two premiere of Quantum Leap is behind us and while many of us are still reeling from the ending, the episode itself was pretty strong as a stand alone story, and that’s what made the original so dog-gone good.
Just a few notes…
The time change has thrown off a couple of viewers and I see a couple of gripes. No. Not the three year time jump (more on that in a second). The new night of the broadcast. One thing you have to look at is competition. Yeah, its opposite of Survivor. But that’s still a heck of a lot friendlier than Monday Night Football. Renewal wasn’t a given for this show, (hence the last season’s multi purpose finale) and it needs support from the viewers.
Did anyone get any Raiders of the Lost Ark vibes from the first 15 minutes? Like, they planted the who Nazi occult thing in my head, and the episode takes place four years before the film.
Melissa Roxburgh is getting high marks from her turn last night as the LT. I haven’t watched a lot of her stuff but I have to agree.
While the episode is pretty spectacular from a visual stand point with plane crashes and missiles, the most immersive part was the disarming of the land mine. We have to bond with characters quickly during these leaps and that’s definitely the way to do it.
Listening to Ben drop the MacGyver reference was pretty cool. The best part is that all of those guys will still be alive when the show premieres and they’re all going to be saying “Hey! They made a show about Perez’s uncle!”
And a couple of them might be around in the present day where they’ll see the MacGyver reboot and think “Again!?”
What did you think of the episode? Let me know in the comments.
And no. I didn’t forget about the time jump. I gave it a whole post HERE.
