The Irrational: Why you should be rooting against Alec and Marisa getting back together for now
The Irrational delivered some good television this week. So far the experience has been pretty strong. The cast is solid. The stories are interesting and the long game also appears to be there.
But there is an angle that seems to be moving to the front of the line that we should all reject.
That is Alec getting back with Marisa. This shouldn’t happen until at least season 3. Maybe 4.
This is because it is a well documented fact that happy couples make for boring television. We saw it on Cheers, Friends, Smallville, X Files, we’re getting ready to see it on Abbott Elementary.
Think about it. You know it’s true.
A “will they or won’t they” works as long as the question is valid.
This is why we should be happy that Marisa is dating this guy that I’m not even going bother looking up until he’s made at least one more appearance.
Alec is our hero. A hero needs objectives.
That first objective is finding out the mystery “big bad” who blew up the church and gave him his scars. We saw some advancement there.
The second objective should be getting back with Marisa, and if we’re being honest, I’m not even that high on it. This hero works best as a bachelor.
If he gets back with Marisa, what do we have left to look forward to? Ideally, a solid drama should run for five seasons. We’re in episode 3.
Luckily, it looks like the showrunners are going to stretch it out a bit. And that’s cool.
I wouldn’t even mind watching Alec date someone else first.
Great show. See you next week.
