Mall Cop Confessions: The Slip and Fall menace

It’s both kind of funny and its kind of not when you’re working as a mall cop. One of your biggest enemies on the job can be a puddle of liquid, and you have to take it seriously because it can actually be quite a menace.

This is because puddles cause slip and falls, and we live in a litigious society that thrives off of people collecting insurance money because they slipped on a wet spot on the floor.

Puddles are a safety hazard. That means they’re a security concern.

If you’re working and get a call about a spill, then you need to get there as soon as you can. This is because people don’t pay attention and will continue to trek across the wet floors until someone falls.

When you get there, put up some wet floor signs and call housekeeping until it’s cleaned.

The problem is that slip and falls can happen even if there isn’t a beverage lost to gravity. Customers tracking in rain can lead to people falling. Visitors coming in from the snow can also do likewise. You have to take it seriously.

When you get a call about a slip and fall, respond. Follow your company guidelines and prepare to write a thorough report. And yeah, someone slipping on an ice cream cone needs a serious report because it could very well end up in court.

Slip and falls are serious. And while the concept itself is not serious, people can get hurt and malls can lose a lot of money. Be vigilant.
