Euphoria: What a time jump could mean to our story

Some more good news for Euphoria fans that have been clamoring for season 3 for years now. HBO executives told Variety that they’re working on a new campaign that won’t take place in high school but will feature the same cast (story HERE).

Okay. We’d be ecstatic to have the core cast back, especially with Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney’s careers shooting to the moon. Even if they have limited availability we should take it.

But the time jump will mean story changes that will both work in favor of showrunners and against them.

A time jump will make cast changes easier: Sadly, we lost Angus Cloud last summer and that means that the Fezco arc which was a big cliffhanger at the end of season 2, will be closed. Also the departure of Barbie Ferreira means an easier way to write off Kat.

Story progression gaps: Rue’s recovery. Nate’s family. Cassie and Maddy tension. It’s all going to have to get kicked down the street with a time jump. We might even see some angles abandoned.

New characters: There is a lot of time to fill. And a lot of roles that will be opened up by a time jump. It’s basically the beginning of a new chapter. And like any story, new chapters often mean new characters. It’s unclear how the fandom would react to new characters with a story timeline as unusual as this one.

But the main point here is hope. There are a lot of people that still don’t believe a third season of Euphoria will happen. As long as we’ve got HBO bosses telling us there is hope, there is no reason to stop believing.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
