Countdown: S1E2 “Dead Lots Of Times” Recap and Review

Countdown continues with its second outing as we see the team attempt to smuggle drugs across the border in an effort to get closer a group that can give them a lead on Borys Volchek. We also get an origin story on our “big bad this season”.

And we’ll start there. Volchek was perfectly happy when his brother came to him for help on a hacking job back in 2008 (thanks for making me feel old Prime Video lol). Borys manages to get some emails for his brother’s contact in a covert job, only for his brother to shoot himself out of guilt for the trouble he caused his family. Volchek gets revenge for the death of his brother by rigging a toaster to explode when the contact is checking out the emails.

Back in present day, Oliveras gets back into the smuggling gang to run a job out of Tijuana. They get to the drugs just fine but on the way back, they have to improv when border security gets suspicious. Meachum causes a scene, while Finau gets the truck through. While all of this is happening, Blythe has the DA probing around for answers, but so far he’s cordial. Meachum is still suspicious about Oliveras using, when she takes a brick of drugs for herself, which she says she’ll flush out of defiance for putting the rest on the street. During the delivery, the vehicle of the dealers explode but the team still manages to get a lead on Volchek. Meachum decides he’ll have to go back undercover in prison to get close to one of his contacts.

The episode was fine. Ackles and Dayne are still the draw for me and I can’t honestly tell you if Oliveras is using right now or not. The Volchek flashback was fine but I don’t hate him or like him anymore for it. There are still a lot of “On Call” vibes. Especially during the lie detector scene. Ackles is still giving us a lot of Soldier Boy vibes but that is a good thing.

Let’s see where the next episode goes.

What did you think of the second episode of Countdown? Let me know in the comments.
