Countdown: S1E4 “Bite em down” Recap And Review
One problem that “Countdown” will have to tackle, is to avoid lowering itself to network television grade entertainment. This cast is too good, and Prime Video is too capable to give us a product that average. But if it weren’t for a key death to lead things off then that’s what this episode would have been.
Indeed, Drew did die to lead off the show. If you saw the gunshot cliffhanger last week, you may have known he wasn’t going to live through this. They even went a little gruesome with it, with Meachum having to gauze the heavy bleeding in the ambulance.
I have to tell you, it was weird watching “McSteamy” get bad news from a doctor after years on Grey’s Anatomy. But Blythe had a busy episode also having to try to keep his taskforce in tact after his officers were called back.
They were able to catch Durko and use him as bait, but in a twist we all saw coming, Volchek outsmarted the team at the airport meet with a decoy to closeout the episode.
There were some good things from this episode. Meachum’s “Jar Jar ruined Star Wars” crack was an audible laugh. And Oliveras struggling with addiction is good TV because when she’s performing well, we can’t tell if she’s high or just really confident. It sounds silly, but if you’re watching the show, it makes a lot of sense.
The truth is that if someone just told you that Drew died, then you might have been able to skip this episode and not really miss anything. Hey. Almost every streaming series takes a “breather” episode (especially given how much action was in the three episode premiere) and I’ll still be here next week to see what happens next.
What did you think of the episode? Let me know in the comments.
