So, should we just crown Zendaya again right now? It’s a fair question after her win last year, and looking at the field of repeat winners again this time out, it could very well happen again.

The nominees for Best Actress are..

Laura Linney, Ozark
Zendaya, Euphoria
Jodie Comer, Killing Eve
Sandra Oh, Killing Eve
Reese Witherspoon, The Morning Show
Melanie Lynskey, Yellowjackets

This is a great field. It’s also a very familiar field. These are all terrific actresses who have had award success before.

Comer and Oh have both won hardware for Killing Eve during its run, and the last season will sadly be remembered for its unpopular ending.

Linney deserves a win for Ozark and could get one as the sunset award, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Reese Witherspoon has an Oscar and creative power in some of the best dramas on TV right now. Its almost like a judge winning a trophy.

That leaves Melanie Lynskey. Now she’s good, but when you turn this into a two actress contest, Rue Bennett’s journey last season covered everything. It was terrifying. It was humorous. It was heartfelt. Euphoria was on a different level this season.

And then there is the Zendaya effect. She’s a rising tide that lifts all ships. We’re talking about a celebrity that managed to trend twice during the Super Bowl (story HERE).

She’s box office.

I can tell you, it will probably be who Emmy producers will be rooting for.

And just like last year, it will be well earned.
