Rule #1: You got to make me care. You got to make me feel something.

And goodness, The Horrors of Dolores Roach had myself and probably you feeling something if you’re reading this post. I’m currently binging the series, and if you’re familiar with my last post on the empanadas served in the show, that is still a gross sentence to type (that post HERE).

Let’s talk about that fight with Marcie. That was some brutal s***. It was intense. So much so that I had to blog about it, and I watch fights on TV everyday.

First off, we have to give Dolores (Justina Machado) and Marcie (TV veteran Judy Reyes, where my Scrubs fans at?) their credit. None of this doesn’t work if they’re not putting in the work.

But here is why the fight felt so intense.

We took the emotional journey with Dolores: We knew we couldn’t trust Marcie. Then she had us drop our guard and even did quite a bit of flirting. And we fell for it. We were hopeful, disappointed, and then pushed to the highest level of anger, all while being afraid of Dolores getting caught in less than two minutes.

Marcie made it as personal as it could get: She played Dolores. Then cut open her f****** massage table, made fun of her visioning board, and then told her that her ex lover turned her in, all with a smile on her face. Here we are at highest level of anger again.

It was a physical scene: This was a “Dexter” level type of scene. Marcie fought like hell. And then there was the bite wound (great make up work there) followed by the abrupt ending.

You have to take a minute and appreciate these kinds of scenes. This could have been done poorly and could have lost a great deal of viewers. But it was done right, and could not have been easy. Credit where credit is due.
