There are a lot of reasons not to like Joe after the first two episodes of Special Ops: Lioness. First off she doesn’t seem to really love her kids. You observe the way she looks at her house when she pulls up in the driveway. It’s the way most of us look at chores that need to be done.

Then there is the whole torturing the main protagonist of the show issue with Cruz. Arranging for her to be abducted, sprayed with a fire hose so hard that it pulled her clothes off, and freezing her while using sleep deprivation techniques right before a water boarding session. Then she was going to (checks notes) forge Cruz’s signature on a waiver that would have allowed all of this to continue. Just to prove a point.

But let’s talk about something she said to Cruz between torturing sessions. Regarding her ex boyfriend, Edgar. You’ll recall Edgar beat Cruz before she joined the military and threatened to kill her when she fought back. He probably would have.

She says to Cruz “He’s dead. Did you know that? Beaten. Dead. Shot. Like someone made a game of it.”

If we’re being completely real, she’s capable of having that arranged. If she didn’t just do it herself.

Read the second paragraph of this post again. She did all of that to a member of her team. What do you think she’d do to some monster who punches his girlfriend in the nose because she forgot his milkshake?

It’s only two episodes. We’re still learning who everybody is and what they’re all about. But that’s the kind of vibe I’m getting from Joe right now.
