The Accused premiered over the weekend and the new FOX drama which is expected to feature different crime stories each week, won its premiere due to Michael Chiklis’ ace performance as a dad on trial for a matter that isn’t immediately spelled out until the end of the show.

Our story has many parallels with “We need to talk about Kevin”, the film featuring Tilda Swinton and Ezra Miller as a mom trying to save her troubled son from during something truly disturbing. And there is even scene that comes dangerously close to Macaulay Culkin’s highway scene from “The Good Son”.

Except in this story, its Chiklis as the parent trying desperately to save his son, Devin.

I don’t want to harp on similarities. Lets talk about the show. It feels like a fairly run of the mill FOX drama. But it plays its cards close enough to the chest and allows Chiklis plenty of space to roam about and deliver a compelling performance. When it was over I was happy that I watched it.

But the question you’re probably thinking is “How will this show do without a talent like Chiklis?”. Especially if the stories are something we’ve already seen before.

Really, I don’t know the answer to that question.

The bottom line is that there is enough here for you to check out The Accused. Let’s see what they can do.
