Fans online reminisce about movies they once hated, now love
Movie aficionados spent their Wednesday mornings online holding a discussion regarding movies they once hated, and now adore. This is a flip on the topic of once loved movies that are now despised (thread HERE).
The list was quite diverse. Let’s go over a few of the most pinged titles.
Hot Rod (2007): Before the Lonely Island really took off on Saturday Night Live, and a couple of years before fan favorite Brooklyn Nine Nine hit televisions, Andy Samberg starred as an aspiring stunt man in “Hot Rod”. The cast is now an all star one when you look back. Isla Fisher, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Ian McShane and Sissy Spacek. Impressive stuff.
The next few are more nuanced. And while they’re all fine films, they can be considered a little “off”.
Fargo (1996): Before it was an awesome television show, it was a really cool movie. Multiple Oscar winner, Frances McDormand, nabbed her first trophy playing a very pregnant North Dakota cop, trying to unravel a goofy but violent criminal plan. It’s a Cohen Brothers classic.
Napoleon Dynamite (2004): Yeah, Napoleon, Pedro, and Uncle Rico might not be for everyone at first. But this comedy took a risk and it paid off with a classic that is not only funny, but teaches an important political campaign lesson too.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968): This one is completely understandable. And that’s because Kubrick takes us on a fever dream in space that just seems to wander about. And in doing so, gets you lost in the process. It’s art. But boy is it trippy art. And look at when this thing was made. In that regard it’s indeed an unforgettable classic.
Apocalypse Now (1979): A war film unlike any other war film, this one throws you off from the beginning because we’re never quite sure what we’re in for. Characters don’t make sense. And while this is another one that’s easy to get confused in, there are some legendary visuals.
