Rejoice! The next generation Playstation 5 and XBOX Series X and S consoles are almost upon us!
Before you know it, we’ll be experiencing state of the art game play and cutting edge graphics that will be the envy of all of our friends and prove that we’re better parents than they are when we buy these machines for our children.
But we haven’t seen a regular event that has occured for the past few decades before a next gen console release.
And that’s a price drop on the older machines we’re moving on from.
Prices on the Playstation 4 and XBox One are still high. If we’re being technical an XBox One still costs the same as a XBox Series S right now.
So, what’s going on?
Really, we’re just too busy to notice.
Another reason is that it’s been a while since we’ve had new consoles drop. The gaming industry is hoping consumers don’t remember that they’re supposed to be reducing those prices to get one last push from the old guard.
And this tradition has also usually been a courtesy to lower income families that don’t always have the money to level up with other gamers.
It would be unfortunate if Sony and Microsoft decide to run up the prices until the very end.
Really, it’s not too late though. In theory, they could pull the trigger on a price drop for the older machines the same day as the new consoles become available. That’s fair play. That’s how the phone companies do it.
Let’s hope they do. Make no mistake. The gaming industry does very well.
It’s important that they allow this wonderful sport to be available to everyone on some level.
